How does the Rent a Space Storage Move-in Service work:
Our free storage move-in service makes moving into your storage unit simple, convenient, and cost-effective. You won’t pay for fuel, truck insurance, or truck hire — it’s all included at no charge.
Who Can Use the Service?
This service is available to eligible customers whose goods are located within 10km of the selected Rent a Space self storage facility. Minimum storage unit sizes apply. You can book a morning or afternoon slot, six days a week, subject to availability.
What to Expect on the Day
A 3.5-tonne, fully enclosed truck, driven by a professional driver, will arrive at your home or office (within the designated service area) at your scheduled time. You and your helpers will load the truck with your items.
Our trucks are fitted with tailgate lifts to make loading heavy or bulky items — such as white goods and furniture — much easier. Each truck also comes with:
- A fridge trolley to help transport large items from your property to the truck
- Moving blankets and tie-down straps to secure your belongings safely during transport
Getting to Your Storage Unit
Once loaded, our driver will transport your goods directly to your pre-booked storage unit. They will park the truck as close as possible to your unit or a designated loading area. You and your helpers can then unload using our platform trolleys, mattress trolleys, or fridge trolleys. If your storage unit is on an upper floor, you’ll have access to our large, fast goods lift.

Our free truck and driver service is offered on a first-come, first-served basis and is extremely popular. We recommend booking early to secure your preferred date and time.

1. Be prepared and organised
You’ll have one hour to load the truck, so time management is key. To make the most of your booking:
- Disassemble any furniture in advance — such as beds, tables, or flat-pack items — to save time and space.
- Have your items packed and ready to load before the truck arrives.
- Place your goods in an easily accessible area close to the truck’s parking spot.
2. Choose the right helpers
As you are responsible for loading and unloading, make sure your helpers are physically capable and ready to assist:
- Efficient and cooperative helpers will make the process faster and safer for everyone.
- Lifting heavy or bulky items like furniture and white goods requires strength and care.
3. Complete your storage agreement before move-in day
Moving can be stressful, avoid delays by finalising your storage agreement before your scheduled move:
- Rent a Space offers a contactless move-in option, allowing you to complete paperwork online.
- Alternatively, visit the storage facility a few days beforehand to:
- View your storage unit
- Complete your agreement
- Place your lock and get familiar with the site

4. Know what fits in the truck
Our 3.5-tonne trucks hold approximately 7.5m² of goods — roughly half the size of a standard garage.
- If you’ve booked a larger storage unit, plan which items will go in the truck.
- Prioritise bulky, heavy or hard-to-move items that won’t fit in a car or trailer.
- Need more transport support? Ask about our trailer hire service to help move the remaining items.
5. Set up a safe loading area
Every home or business site is different, so plan where the truck will park:
- A smooth loading area helps protect your goods and ensures your appointment stays on schedule.
- Clear any obstacles such as overhanging branches or narrow driveways.
- Reserve space on the street if needed to ensure legal and safe access.
6. Our driver is here to advise, not to assist
Our experienced drivers are there to operate the truck and offer packing advice, not to lift or move items.
- However, they will not load or unload the truck, so make sure you have enough help on-site.
- They’ll help you position goods safely and securely for transport.
7. Arrive at the storage facility with the truck
You must arrive at your Rent a Space storage facility at the same time as the truck to begin unloading immediately. This ensures your storage move-in runs on time and allows for a smooth transition from truck to unit.

Who Is Eligible?
- This complimentary storage move-in service is available to customers moving into a storage unit 2.5m² or larger.
- For Saturday bookings, customers must be moving into a unit 4.5m² or larger.
- The service is available only for moves within a 10km radius of your selected Rent a Space storage facility.
Booking and Availability
- This is a first-come, first-served service, subject to availability. We recommend booking early to avoid missing out.
- We will confirm your truck booking the day before your move. Changes can be made up to 24 hours in advance.
- Cancellations after confirmation will forfeit your opportunity to re-book the truck and your storage reservation fee.
Important Usage Guidelines
- The service is available only at the time of move-in (or within your move-in period) and cannot be used at move-out — even if it wasn’t used during move-in.
- The service includes one truck trip, from your pickup address directly to the storage facility. No additional stops are permitted.
- Only one hour is allocated for loading at your pickup location. Be ready with your items packed and a suitable number of helpers.
- After loading, you must travel immediately to the storage unit to begin unloading.
- Our professional driver will not handle or carry your items — their role is to drive and advise only.
- You must have a paid reservation or a completed storage agreement to access this free service.
- The driver has final authority on where they can safely and legally park the truck.
